Training the Next Generation of Grain Operations Professionals

Building on its history of innovation and forward thinking in grain industry operations workforce education and training, the Grain Elevator and Processing Society established the GEAPS Foundation and fundraising campaign that built a $4 million endowment to provide sustainable and independent funding to support development of new and innovative training resources for grain and oilseed supply-chain operations professionals.

With direction and oversight by the Governing Board, the Foundation:

  • Works with academic institutions and industry operation equipment, service and technology solutions providers, and facility operators to support and enhance public/private training partnerships.

  • Works with other grant-making institutions to leverage Foundation resources for professional development whenever such opportunities present themselves.

  • Constantly looks for business models to sustain and enhance the Foundation mission and core purpose

Investing to Ensure a Well-Trained Industry Workforce

Today’s facility operations professionals and workforce leaders thrive on innovation and staying a step ahead in developing cost-effective solutions to provide quality grain products safely and sustainably no matter what the scale or geography and specifically

  • A workforce trained on industry-specific standards and accepted best practices helps ensure the competitive advantage industry leaders are seeking.

  • The most successful grain companies and industry leaders support sustained investment in the future of the industry through continual workforce education and training.

“We’re always looking for ways to hang on to good people. One of the most cost-effective ways is to invest in their educations and their futures. We use the GEAPS/K-State courses to provide practical training for our employees and as a retention strategy. We think it’s already saved us significant amounts of money. Replacing a single experienced worker can cost at least $10,000. Investing a few hundred dollars in a course that helps us hang on to our experienced people has been a much smarter way to go about it.”
